Investment Into Green Technology

Since Al Gore brought us An Inconvenient Truth, green issues and green technology have created buzz in the markets.

It has become a topic which Governments use to secure votes, corporates can use to generate additional revenue and consumers are willing and ready to purchase.

Last year, ethical investment was the fastest growing segment of the financial services market, as funds poured in to be invested into the sustainable technology of the future. Though in terms of return it lagged far behind energy and mining stocks.

Here is the million dollar question...

Is it all hype? Or will it be sustainable, long term and change buying habits forever?

Only time will tell, but what are your thoughts on investing in GREEN?

I have invested in Wind Energy before and the investment has gone nowhere. Quite the opposite to my Fuel stocks.

I had the same experience. I invested in Wind Hydrogen - WHN -in its IPO a year ago and it went south quick. That said, every IPO went down at that time. Just look at Rams

I think going green at the moment helps people sleep well. it is still unfeasible to put the amount of dollars into R&D for it to push oil out; coal is still way to cheap to even look for a substitute. although thanks to OPEC there might be enough of a cash injection for something sustainable to actually come to light. BUT the 100 Trillion dollar question is - if there is a sustainable energy sorce then how can a company profit from it? End of the day companies are looking for profit (especially with the corporations act dictating this) any real solution would have to come from an individual or individuals not looking for cash but looking to save the world. Who would sponsor R&D with the only potential return being a warm fuzzy feeling instead of a fat bank account? ps nobel prize winners actually get some financial reward.
